Marxist Sociology – The Ultimate Society
Regardless of opposition, the march toward socialism and eventually communism is inevitable. Those who support these changes will become free, and those who resist will remain enslaved to capitalism. Social evolution based on biological conflict and survival of the fittest will bring about the spread of a communist society. Because economics is the foundation of society, Marxist sociologists see socialism as the first step toward communism. A socialist economic system will initiate the changes that will lead to the perfect communistic society.
Marxist Sociology – Worldwide Communism
Worldwide communism will abolish the class divisions and competition inherent in capitalistic societies, bringing about utopia and a better life for everyone. The need for government will eventually vanish. According to Lenin, “Only in Communist society when the resistance of the capitalists has been completely broken, when the capitalists have disappeared, when there are no classes . . . only then the State ceases to exist.”1 This idea of society running itself without the need for government is examined in the chapter on Marxist politics; the remainder of this chapter examines Marxist views of the church, education, and the family.
